The French Member of Parliament, and Secretary at Foreign Affairs Laurence Dumont was invited today on RCF radio. She came on the show to raise awareness on the Ghost Children crisis
Ghost Children are the first victims for human trafficking.
'When these children are in their hometowns everybody knows who they are, everyone knows their names. But when they want to take an exam, we realize they didn't get registered at birth. Usually it's because their parents didn't know what to do, but also because of financial or material difficulties. In some countries, you have to pay to get a birth certificate and most registration centers are miles away from home. So, inevitably, the children don't get legally registered. Because these children do not have any rights, they are the victims of the worst possible exploitation on the planet. They are more likely to being enrolled by force as child soldiers, prostitution, slavery, organ trafficking. We have partnered with the University of Caen to help us launch a project where the students can help us raise awareness."
"I met a young engineer in Burkina Faso who has developed a hospital bracelet for newborns. It's equipped with a unique and unfalsifiable Bubble Code. And in Africa, because there are a lot of mobile phones, they have developed a phone app. The midwife scans the code on the bracelet and it's immediately sent to the civil registration center, and they receive the birth certificate automatically. It's a very simple technology.
